Becker County Warrant Records Becker County Warrant Records

Two offices hold the answer to a Becker County warrant question. The sheriff posts the public list of active warrants, while Court Administration keeps the file behind each case. Call the sheriff about what is on the list. Call the court about why it issued and what happens next. Have a full legal name, a date of birth, and any case or citation number ready. Staff will confirm current status by phone, and a relative can call for you if you cannot. Start with the office that holds the record you need.

How to Check for a Warrant in Becker County

One office in Becker County publishes warrants for the public to see: the Sheriff. The list runs alphabetically by last name, with A to Z jump links and an Expand All button rather than a search box. Open a letter, read the row, and treat it as a lead. Warrants are served and recalled all week, and the Sheriff itself warns the page can lag behind the office system.

  1. Open the Sheriff's active warrant list and expand the letter you need.
  2. Compare the row against your name, date of birth, height, and weight.
  3. Search Minnesota Court Records Online by name or case number.
  4. Call the Sheriff at 218-847-2661 to confirm the warrant is active.
  5. Call Court Administration at 218-846-5040 for the case date and release conditions.

The page below shows the disclaimer, alphabet controls, and column headers the county publishes.

Becker County's Sheriff Warrant List Explained

Becker County's public warrant list is a flat page. Everything sits on one screen, sorted by letter, with no account, no fee, and no filter for offense, date, or bond amount.

Control or FieldTypeWhat It Does
Last-name A to Z linksNavigationJumps to one letter block
Expand All; Collapse AllControlsOpens or closes every record

Note: There is no text search, result count, or update timestamp, so only a phone call confirms what is current.

Types of Warrants in Becker County

Becker County courts use three labels: bench warrant, failure to appear, and warrant. Capias is not a Minnesota term, so a reader holding that word has another state's paperwork.

Warrant TypeHow It ArisesWho Issues It
Arrest warrantA charge with probable causeA District Court judge
Bench warrantA missed date or broken conditionThe judge in the case
Sign and Release WarrantA qualifying case under state lawThe court, with no arrest authority
Search warrantA request to search for evidenceA judge, under chapter 626

Becker County Court Structure and Warrants

Minnesota runs one unified trial court, so Becker County has no municipal or city courts. Becker County District Court sits in the Seventh Judicial District and hears criminal, traffic, civil, family, juvenile, and probate matters. A city ordinance ticket and a felony charge reach the same bench, and Court Administration is the counter behind both. Two resident judges sit in Becker, with two more rotating in to help with the caseload. Judges change over time. The counter does not.

What a Becker County Warrant Record Shows

The public list gives a summary row only. The court file carries the case history, so most Becker County readers need both.

Warrant NumberW plus a four-digit year plus a sequence, for example W2026001842
SubjectName, date of birth, and physical description fields
OffenseA statute or code with a plain-language label
Docket NumberThe court identifier that pulls the case record
Bond Amount and TypeA court-set amount plus a label such as Hold for Court, Body Only, or Sign and Release
StatusActive, served, recalled, or cleared

A blank bond amount does not mean the case carries no conditions.

What Becker's Warrant List Does Not Show

The Becker County list is a public service, not a complete record set. No stamp shows when it was last refreshed. A reader cannot tell whether a row appeared this morning or three weeks ago. There is no history either, so a warrant recalled last month simply vanishes from view.

  • No update timestamp or refresh schedule
  • No status history for a served or recalled warrant
  • No filter, pagination, or result count

Note: A row that vanishes may have been served, recalled, or replaced, and only staff can say which happened.

Who Issues and Serves Becker County Warrants

A judge decides whether a warrant issues in Becker County. The Becker County Sheriff's Office, at 925 Lake Avenue in Detroit Lakes, serves arrest warrants, search warrants, and civil process, and it publishes the public list. Court Administration keeps the case file and payment record. The Sheriff cannot recall a warrant, and the court does not arrest anyone. No separate warrant unit name or warrant line exists. Questions go to 218-847-2661 during weekday business hours. The Sheriff's overview page lists warrant service among the office's duties.

Sign and Release Warrants and the 2024 Change

This area of Minnesota practice changed on January 1, 2024. Under Minnesota Statutes 629.415, a qualifying case can be handled with a Sign and Release Warrant, which does not authorize an arrest. The officer updates the address, completes form CRM1401, gives a new court date, and releases the person at the scene. The case is not erased, though. A missed appearance later goes back to a judge. Only one Sign and Release warrant issues per qualifying case, so read the bond type before assuming a warrant means arrest on sight. The state's Sign and Release fast facts spell out who qualifies.

What to Do If You Have a Becker County Warrant

Talk to a licensed Minnesota attorney first. Then take the route the Becker County court sets for that case: a directed appearance, posting bond, or a motion asking the court to recall or quash the warrant. Bond is a release condition, not a fine. Paying a fine alone does not clear a warrant.

Important: Do not approach or try to detain anyone listed, yourself included. Call the Sheriff at 218-847-2661 or 911, and speak with a lawyer before any appearance.

Becker County Court Administration accepts cash, a personal check with picture identification, major cards, money orders, and cashier's checks. A payment helps only when it matches what the court ordered.

Becker County Warrant Counters: Sheriff or Court

Two Becker County offices answer warrant questions, and each handles a different half of the problem. Dialing the wrong one wastes a trip to Detroit Lakes.

Public Access to Becker County Warrant Records

Minnesota presumes government data is public unless a statute or classification says otherwise. Warrant records mix the two. Some fields are published for public safety, while private data and juvenile, protective, or sealed matters stay closed in Becker County.

Key Rules:

Minnesota Statutes 13.03 makes government data public by default, with free inspection and possible copy fees.

Minnesota Statutes 13.82 classifies law enforcement data, so not every field is open.

Minnesota Statutes 299C.115 shares warrant data with justice agencies, which is not a public search.

Minnesota Rules of Public Access govern court records and keep protected cases closed.

Asking for a Warrant Record Under Chapter 13

When a Becker County record is not online, a written request is the route. The Sheriff's forms page carries the Request for Information form for Sheriff data. The county administrator's page covers everything else.

  • Describe the record: a list snapshot, a warrant return, a recall, or a case record
  • Give a date range and any case or warrant number you have
  • Say whether you are the data subject, which affects identity checks

Inspection is free in Becker County. Paper copies run 25 cents a page, a CD is $10, and the county schedule lists $25 per hour for search.

County and Federal Warrants Are Separate Systems

A federal charge will never show up on a Becker County warrant list. Becker County belongs to the federal District of Minnesota. There, the U.S. District Court keeps the case, and the U.S. Marshals Service serves the process. The Devitt U.S. Courthouse in Fergus Falls is the closest federal location. Doors stay open weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For federal dockets, use PACER, which charges per page even when a search comes back empty.
